Desi Boyz: Movie Review

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Cast & Crew: Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Chitrangda Singh, Omi Vaidya
Director: Rohit Dhawan

Synopsis: Desi Boyz is the story of two men who are compelled to go beyond the usual and do something extremely bizarre to fetch them instant monetary gratification but the repercussions tear them apart jeopardizing their friendship.

Review: Semi-nude hunks, love angle, fatherhood issues, supposedly comic flashbacks, melodramatic musical inclusions. Yes, I am talking about the same film here. Made with obvious slapstick masala intentions, ‘Desi Boyz’ ends up being nothing more than a confused and odd film. Scenes, dialogues and  story points are just thrown in so the film can be classified as an all-round entertainer. Even for people who enjoy the slapstick masala genre, this one will not be paisa vasool.
Nick Mathur (John Abraham) and Jerry Patel (Akshay Kumar) live comfortable lives in London. Nick gloats about his job as an investment banker and his beautiful fiancé, Radhika (Deepika Padukone) while Jerry is too used to living off his friend Nick. But things take a drastic turn when Nick`s company starts downsizing and unceremoniously fires him, while Jerry can’t last in odd jobs either. Enter Sanjay Dutt (cue music: nayak nahiiiii…..khalnayak hoon main), owner of a male escort service called Desi Boyz. Various semi-nude montages and songs later we are introduced to serious issues like Jerry’s orphaned nephew and Radhika catching jerry and Nick in the act of stripping at a bachelorette party (dramatic twist anyone?) Nick then blames Jerry for dragging him into this mess and their friendship begins to crack. How will they deal with this mess? Will they ever find decent jobs? Go watch, if you really (really?) want answers to these questions.
Verdict: Worth A Miss
