Review: Julayi is like a perfectly prepared South Indian dish with the right amount of mirch and masala to keep moviegoers entertained for the entire 160 minutes. Ravindra Narayan, the protagonist, played by Allu Arjun, is a lazy, no-good character who doesn’t want to work and believes in making big bucks in a small period of time. His father on the other hand Narayana Murthy, played by Tanikella Bharani, believes that life has no shortcuts and only hard work truly pays off.
An argument between father and son, leads to Ravindran challenging his dad. Ravi asks his father for Rs.10,000, and tells him, “In two hours I will bring back one lakh with the 10,000 you’ve given me”. This is when all hell breaks loose. Ravi meets Bittoo, played by Sonu Sood, who is planning to rob Rs.1500 Crores from a bank. When Ravi puts the pieces of the puzzle together, he realizes Bittoo’s fiendish intentions and immediately informs Police commissioner Manikyam (Rao Ramesh). Manikyam with the help of Ravi hunts down the stolen cash and in the process, Ravi kills Bittoo’s brother Lala, played by Shafi. Bittoo is outraged and swears to bring Ravi down. Ravi is then sent off to Hyderabad, where he meets his love interest Madhu, played by Ileana D’Cruz. What follows is a wacky love story with pinches of action infused scenes. The first half was thrillingly entertaining with a lot of action and comedy, while the second half had its own wacky twists and turns.
Allu Arjun and Sonu Sood have played brilliant roles. Action sequences that defied the laws of physics, witty dialogue delivery, brilliant direction and visual effects, along with superb acting by all the actors and a very well done soundtrack paved the way for Julayi. The storyline is a little disappointing. An avid movie follower can figure out micro similarities between Julayi and movies such as The Dark Knight and Players.
Definitely a movie worth being called a blockbuster, this movie has all the elements that make it one of the better Telugu movies to watch.
Verdict : A complete package with concoctions of action, comedy and romance.
