LOKPRIYA : Raga-based songs from Hindi films of yesteryears


In an effort to promote classical music amongst lay audiences, this presentation is designed to enable the uninitiated listener to enjoy and appreciate the rich raga legacy of Hindustani classical music by associating a particular raga with a corresponding raga-based film song. The song-selection is from the evergreen and charming compositions of iconic film music directors Anil Biswas, O.P.Nayyar, Jaidev, Khayyam, Madan Mohan, Naushad and others who had a penchant for raga-based songs, many of which have timeless appeal.


Parthiv Gohil began his music training at a young age with Bhanu Solanki, Daksha Mehta and Laxmipati Shukla, and went on to win the Pandit Omkarnath Thakur competition, followed by the state talent search competition. Under the gurukul scholarship scheme of SPICMACAY, he also trained under Zia Fariduddin Dagar.


A runner-up in the Sa Re Ga Ma TV show, Parthivs career in playback singing took off with a title song for the film Devdas and continued with a host of films like Saawariya, Vaada Raha and so on. His other projects include participation in the iconic song Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara and an MTV performance with reputed artistes.
