DJ Aqeel, aka Aqeel Ali, has been rocking the dance floors across the globe for more than a decade. Being in this highly competitive music industry, he has truly been meteoric throughout his journey. His passion for music gave him the motivation to defy convention and pursue music more than just a passing hobby.
He began his musical ride in 2000 and since then there was no turning back. He is the only Indian DJ to fill up concert size venues internationally. Steven Kapur is a British vocalist and reggae DJ. His childhood was spent in a neighborhood with a large immigrant population, mainly consisting of Jamaicans and Indians that was home to reggae bands such as Steel Pulse and UB40. By the early 80s, Kapur was working with local sound systems and had gained recognition as a dancehall DJ. His first single Movie Over India (1989) became a hit with both Reggae and Bhangra lovers. In 1992, Apache got a major break when he signed a record deal with Island Records who released his album No Reservations. His fusion of Reggae, Raggamuffin, Hip Hop and Bhangra was quite unique and created a new segment in the music world. He is considered a legend in his field and is the only Indian artist to achieve seven top forty hits in the National UK charts. In his long and illustrious career, Apache has worked with the big names in the music business, notably Shaggy, Boy George, Sean Paul, Luciano, Asha Bhosle, Bappi Lahri, Desmond Dekker, Tim Dogg and several others. He is best known for chartbusters as Chok There, Arranged Marriage and Boom Shack-A-Lack during the 90s. His recent collaboration with Jazzy B for Dil Lutya has taken the world by storm. He has also appeared in a Tamil film called Love Birds where he was seen dancing with Prabhu Deva.
Australian artist Bass Kleph is better known as Stu Tyson off stage. Apart from collaborating with international artists like Tommy Trash, Morgan Page, Andy Caldwell, Wolfgang Gartner and Mowgli, he is also a radio show host, song writer and DJ. As a kid, he toured Australia and New Zealand as the drummer of a hugely successful three-piece rock act, Loki. Some of his top tracks are Disco Sucks, Less is More and Raise Up Lights. Exivious is a band known for its immersive musical experience. It was formed in 2005 by Tymon Kruidenier who plays the guitar along with Michel Nienhuis. Robin Zielhorst and Yuma van Eekelen, who play the bass and drums respectively. Tymon wanted to bring together jazz fusion and metal, two completely different kinds of music. Their first album, named Exivious was a game changer; critics touted it as a genre-defining album. In 2010, Exivious was temporarily disbanded as Tymon and Robin committed to the US metal band Cynic. They made a comeback in 2011 by playing at Brutal Assault, a major festival in Czech Republic. In 2012, Exivious went on its first Europe tour with Obscura, Spawn Of Possesssion and Gorod. The band was able to raise money for their next album through crowd funding and released Liminal (2013) which became a huge hit with the masses.
In 2006, Roysten Abel came across the musically talented Manganiyar community of Rajasthan. These folk artists are known to have performed for Rajasthani kings and later on, they started performing at occasions like births and weddings as well. Manganiyar Seduction is a spectacular showcase of music and visuals, combining simplicity with extravagance, channeling the aesthetics of Amsterdams red light district. Each of the 43 musicians sits in a window or cubicle which is a part of the larger grid. The cubicles illuminate as they play their respective instruments, making the show a visual treat. Manganiyar Seduction is very popular and has been staged in India and internationally at venues in Croatia, New Zealand, Singapore, Salzburg, France and Vienna.
Inner Sanctum is a Death metal band based in Bangalore. The founding members Chintan and Michael were later joined by Tejas (guitar), Abhinav (drums), Gaurav (vocalist) and Rajeev (guitar). Since its inception in 2006, they have won several awards including the Indian Band of the Year (2007 and 2009) and the Best Emerging Band of the Year (2010). Inner Sanctum released its first album Provenance (2009) through Resonance Studios. The album became very popular among the lovers of the Death metal genre in Asia and was featured in several of the top 10 lists of albums for 2009-10.
