Kalpana is a remake of Tamil and Telugu movie Kanchana. In the film, Upendra suffers from Achluphobia (fear of darkness). Matters further aggravate for him when he accidentally hits a dead body with a wicket while playing cricket. He is soon tormented by evil spirits due to which he starts behaving strangely and dressing like a transsexual.
