Vishnu, a relentless young man, itches to escape his father`s faltering hair oil business. An old truck beckons, which Vishnu sees as his ticket to freedom. He offers to drive the antique Chevy across the desert to the sea, where it has been sold to a local museum. As he sets off across the harsh terrain, he discovers he`s not merely transporting a battered vehicle but an old touring cinema. Along the way, Vishnu reluctantly picks up a young runaway, a wandering old entertainer and a striking gypsy woman. Together they roam the barren land, searching for water and an elusive fair. The journey turns dire when they are waylaid by corrupt cops and a notorious waterlord

Road, Movie

By Nikhat Kazmi (TOI)
Vishnu has a bleak future before him. He must join his father in the family`s oil business and try and boost the sales of the stinking oil in small town India. He sees his chance to escape by offering to transport a ramshackle truck, with a make-shift cinema, to a distant museum that lies across the expansive desert of Kutch. His companions: a chai-wallah chokra, a gypsy girl and a burlesque mechanic

Road, Movie

By Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama)
ROAD, MOVIE narrates the journey of a young man and the people he encounters on his way. But the problem is, what is ROAD, MOVIE trying to say? You`re clueless! Is it about the water mafia? Is it about a touring cinema? Is it a love story between an educated youth and a gypsy? Is it a road movie? The sole factor that stands out in this film is its breath-taking locations/visuals. They are more striking than the story. And that`s the sad truth!

Road to nowhere

By Tushar Joshi
Road, Movie is a never ending self-indulgent fest that uses quirky characters -- a man (Abhay Deol) escaping his family in a truck that plays movies, a village girl (Tannishtha Chatterjee), a mechanic (Satish Kaushik), a helper boy (Mohammed Faizal Usmani) and a local goon (Yashpal Sharma) who smuggles water. The interaction between these people happens across the hauntingly beautiful backdrops of Jaisalmer and Kutch.

Road- Movie Review- Is it worth travelling?

By Entertainment and Showbiz
Abhay Deol with his understated and subtle acting once again proves what a fine actor is he. He is a treat to watch and is extremely at ease in front of the camera. Tannistha Chatterjee ,again, in an offbeat role of a sultry, gypsy woman, does not disappoint and does full justice to her role. Usmani keeps you hooked and manages to convince the audience of his talent.Satish Kaushik, too, manages to hold your attention. Other character actors including Yashpal Sharma are so so. As a director,Benegal does not fail to show off his brilliance once again. The beginning of the film is really interesting, but loses its focus somewhere in the mid way. At places the pace gets slow and we get bored. Even though the logic is not convincing enough, the film makes it up through its execution and performance.

A long and winding ode

By Raja Sen (Rediff)
In short, a perfectly family-photograph sized entourage heading to a makeshift Oz mela down the yellow brickless road. It is, as you`d imagine, a charming film. Thanks mostly to Michel Amathieu`s starkly stunning cinematography, the frames are what you take away from the film, frames of a blue, graffiti-led truck wheezing to a halt in the middle of Kutch, of a kid in a bright yellow tee-shirt and of a fat mechanic struggling to stand but never to smile. The film is textured lovingly, the colours are beautiful and its slow, sluggish pace initially enchants as much as it eventually exasperates. Yes, exasperates. For this film -- this pretty little waterless detour of a film -- falters because of inconsistency and the lack of a cohesive storyline. It`s neat and pretty and quite charming, but after a while shots of a truck framed by arid landscape begin to seem tiresome. There are moments of genuine surprise and cleverness, but these are often cancelled out by overdone moments, li
