Director: Thirukumaran

Cast & Crew: Sivakarthikeyan, Hansika Motwani, Soori, Vamsi Krishna

Music: Anirudh Ravichander

Verdict: Sivakarthikeyan in Thirukumaran`s next.

Maan Karate is a fantasy film directed by Thirukumaran, a former associate of A. R. Murugadoss. It stars Sivakarthikeyan, Hansika Motwani, Soori, Vamsi Krishna, Writer Shaji and Sathish. The film was named after a dialogue spoken by Dhamu in Gemini (2002),where he explains that Maan Karate means nothing more than how a deer runs away when in danger. The film has been titled so because whenever there is a problem in his life, the hero Sivakarthikeyan fails to face them and runs for cover instead.

Gautaman Bhaskaran (Hindustan Times)

It talks about their firm shutting down, a hailstorm in Chennai and a guy called Peter, who will win a prize money of Rs 2 crore in a boxing bout. When the company closes down and the hailstorm hits the city, the five begin their search for Peter. And they find him, but seem blissfully callous about whether he is a fighter at all. Come on, IT guys are smarter than this.

Deccan Chronicle

While the film's first half is enjoyable with pleasant moments, and keeps the audience glued to the screen. The second half comes across as a predictable plot and is stretched a bit to far. The slow pace of the film adds to the misery and could have cut short and kept the momentum going.

Sivakarthikeyan, Hansika Motwani starrer K Thirukumarans Maan Karate hit the theatres. Sivakarthikeyan seems to have become the star of escapist cinema in Tamil filmdom. Thanks to his stardom, several wannabe filmmakers are banking on him to make films that are usually targeted at the masses. This explains why he is not considered an actor anymore but merely an entertainer, who would work in a film only with the sole purpose of entertaining his fans.
