Director: Rupert Wyatt
An origin story in the true sense of the word, RISE OF THE APES is set in present day San Francisco. The film is a reality-based cautionary tale-a science fiction/science-fact blend where mankind's hubris leads to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Oscar-winning visual effects house WETA Digital-employing certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for ''Avatar'' rendered, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is the seventh movie to be made on the concept of an entire planet run by apes, coming a decade after the extremely forgettable version made by Tim Burton (still hurts to think about it). That was a remake of the 1968 classic starring Charlton Heston (which spawned four sequels), which in turn was based on the 1963 novel La Plan te des Singes by French author Pierre Boulle.
Will Rodman (James Franco), a scientist working in GenSys, a state-of-the-art laboratory, is desperate to find a cure for Alzheimers, since his father ( John Lithgow) is fast succumbing to it. He develops a wonder drug, ALZ 112 and tries it on chimpanzees
