The theme of the play is both dramatic and humane. It does not reject religion but highlights how the anti-social elements take advantage of it.The play revolves around an old Hindu woman who got separated from her son Ratan at Lahore during the holocaust that followed the partition. It is not known whether he is dead or alive. However she continues to live at Lahore in the old Haveli which subsequently gets allotted to one Sikandar Mirza a refugee from Lucknow. Initially Mirzas family tries various nefarious means to get rid of her but as the time passes, she becomes mother of the family till some of the anti-social elements try to disturb the communal harmony and finallyThe play is a musical and has songs on the situation. The play has rich humor and satire and teaches us of humanity and the relationship that should exist between religion, the intellectuals and common man and is one of the best statements made to create communal harmony in the present situation, where religion is being politicized and used to create disharmony and divide the people.
