Short+Sweet Theatre is the biggest festival of ten-minute theatre in the world, starting in Australia in 2002 and now held annually in 7 different countries, across more than 30 cities, including in Chennai from last year.
Short+Sweet Theatre aims to provide a platform for actors, writers and directors to create high quality new work in professional theatre and a collaborative environment where established practitioners pass on knowledge to others in the theatre arts. The Festival also wishes to present high quality theatre in the form of new short pieces at affordable prices and in so doing develop new audiences for Indian theatre and to encourage people to write for the theatre and thus help foster new playwrights and artists in India.
Encouraged by the massive support that it received from Performers, Directors, Writers and Audiences of Chennai last year, Short+Sweet Chennai presented by Prakriti Foundation and The Blu Lotus Company will celebrate its second edition this July. Over 100 scripts were received, assessed by seasoned theatre practitioners and finally shortlisted to the final set of 32 plays that will be performed over two weeks at the Edouard Michelin Auditorium, Allliance Francaise.
