The Aircel Chennai Open is India and South Asia's only ATP World Tour event. The 2015 edition of the Aircel Chennai Open (ACO) will mark 20 years since the very first game was played in India and the tournament is all set to celebrate the occasion with a host of activities in Chennai.
As India's only ATP World Tour stop for two decades, the tournament has had a long and exhilarating journey in India. Since its inception in 1996, the event has hosted some of the top international players including Rafael Nadal, Boris Becker, Patrick Rafter, Carlos Moya, Stanislas Wawrinka, Janko Tipsarević, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marcos Baghdatis, and Indian stars including Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna among others.
Featuring at this season's event is returning championing Stan Wawrinka, World No. 4 and 2014 Australian Open winner; Feliciano Lopez, World No.14; Roberto Bautista-Agut, World No. 15; David Goffin, World No. 22 as well as ACO 2013 champion and Chennai favorite Janko Tipsarevic. India's top two ranked singles players, Somdev Devvarman and Ramkumar Ramanathan, will be leading the Indian charge in Chennai.
The tournament is played on hard court (PlayPave) and comprises two events - the Men's Singles and the Men's Doubles and carries a total prize money of $450,000.
Chennai has grown to become the indisputable home of tennis in India and the tournament has helped place the city on the international tennis map. The 2015 edition with be held from January 5th to 11th at the SDAT Tennis Stadium, Nungambakkam.
