Sanchi Buddhist Monuments, Bhopal
On a hill overlooking the plain, Sanchi Stupa or Sanhi Buddhist monument is situated about 40 km from Bhopal and is the oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence and was a major Buddhist centre in India until the 12th century A.D. Sanchi Stupa stands as a gateway holy relic and a journey to Enlightment. The reliquary also stands a testimony of rich Buddhist teaching and learnings from Buddhist monks of the era.

The main attraction of Sanchi Stupa is the site of various Buddhist monuments such as monasteries, palaces, monolithic pillars, and temples.
Ashoka Stupa is espeacially recognized for his construction by Mauryan Emperor Ashoka. It was originally built with bricks, but were later restored with stones.
Sanchi Buddhist Temples are one of the interesting sites for their architecture and long history since early Gupta era.
