Known as the land of Terracotta temple, the ancient town of Bishnupur is situated around 40 KM from Bankura town and 132 KMs from Kolkata in West Bengal. The place features 16 Terracotta built temples, some of the important are Lalji temple, Malleshwar temple, Kalachand, Radha Madhab, Radhagobinda temple, Jorbangla, Madan Mohan temple, Radhashyam temple, Shyam Rai temple, and Rasmancha.
The terracotta made artifacts, jewelry, and pottery are bought by the tourist as a souvinier of theor visit to the Bisnupur Temple. The place is also famous for its Tussar silk-made Baluchari saaris.
The best time to visit the place is during the Bishnupur mela, which is held during the last week of December, followed by a Indian classical dance and music festival.
