Bhaja Caves is a group of rock-cut caves which go way back to the 2nd century B.C. Located in Pune near Lonavala Maharashtra, the caves are approximately 400 feet above the village of Bhaja on an important ancient trade route. The Bhaja caves have a number of Stupas which is one of their significant features. The Bhaja Caves share architectural design with the Karla Caves. The Bhaja caves provide important facts and details regarding the history of the musical instrument "Tabla".

Bhaja Caves main attractions:
A notable part of the monument is a group of 14 stupas, five inside and nine outside an irregular excavation. The stupas are relics of monks who died in Bhaja. The huge sculptures feature elegant headdress, jewelry and garlands. They were originally painted with bright colors but later covered in plaster.

Best time to visit the Bhaja Caves
October to March are the best months to visit the Bhaja Caves. While summers get too hot and winters too cold, the early winter months, however, stay pleasant and hence serve the best time to visit.

Bhaja Caves timings:
The Bhaja caves are open to people all days of the week from 8 am to 6 pm. For Indians, the entrance fee is Rs. 25 and for foreign nationalities, Rs. 300.
