Once a blooming capital, Fatehpur Sikri is an abandoned town of Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, spread over an area of 6 KM. The town was formerly called as Fatehabad, which is derived from `Fatah`, a Persian word meaning victory. Built around Saint Salim Chishti`s tomb, the intention behind the town was to honour the Sufi saint. Fatehpur Sikhri is considered one of the important monuments for preserving the specimens of Mughal Architecture in India.

Mughal Emperor Akbar founded as the capital of Mughal Empire at the time, the city served the role form 1571 to 1585 and was abandoned in the year 1610 due to water scarcity and its proximity to the Rajputana empire.
