Fort St. George
Nestled at the coastal city of Madras, Fort St. George is the first English built fortress in India. By the early17th-century, British East India has began their trade activities in Surat and later, to strengthen their communication and network, they shifted their focus to Madras, modern-day Chennai. To conform English trade interests in the area, construction of an English Fort was commissioned in the region. The fortess was dedicated to St. George, the Patron Saint of England.

Fort St. George Main Attraction
The main attraction of the Fort St. George is that the fort currently is the house of the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and other official buildings. Some of the notable buildings are St. Mary's Church, the Fort Museum, Welleshley House and one of the tallest Flag Staff.

Best Time to Visit Fort St. George
The winter season can prove an appropriate time to enjoy a pleasant trip to the fort as it is quite cool at that time of the year.

The fort can be explored on all days of the week except Friday, between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
