Tirumayam Fort  
A site of great historical significance, Tirumayam Fort is a major monument for attracting tourists from across the world. The rock-built fort, is also known as Oomayan Kottai, represents three hundred years old history. A strong power base for rebel chieftains in the Polywar War, constructed by Vijaya Raghunatha Sethupathi, the king of Ramnad in 1687. Standing as an emblem of courag, power, heroism, patriotism and glory, the fort was the hiding place for the famous freedom fighters such as Veerapandiya Kattabomman and Umaiturai.

Tirumayam Fort Main Attraction
The fort is famous for its spectacular aesthetics and architectural brilliance, with the three entry gates dedicated to Hindu dieties, namely Hanuman, Ganapathi, and Sakthi. The fort has a water reservoir that was used by the residents of the fort back in the day, now stands for peace and harmony among the people of the town.
The fort also houses three temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Many pilgrims and tourists come to capture the excellent view of the Tirumayam Fort and explore its historic and religious relevance.

The winter season can prove an appropriate time to enjoy a pleasant trip to the fort as it is quite cool at that time of the year.

The fort can be explored on all days of the week except Friday, between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
