Kolaba Fort, Alibaug        
Standing by the shore of Arabian sea, Kolaba Fort is a 300 year old military fortress, located in the town of Alibaug in the state of Maharashtra. The fortress served as one of the chief naval bases during the reign of Shivaji Maharaj.

Kolaba Fort History
After the independence of South Konkan, Shivaji Maharaj chose Kolaba fort to be fortified and made into his chief naval station. The construction of the fort was commissioned by Shivaji, but was later completed by Sambhaji Maharaj after Shivaji’s demise in 1681.

The fort is at the excellency of military archirtecture, ensuring the safety of the resident of the fort from natural calamity to the any otherside attack.
The fort, interestingly, holds a reservoir of sweet water in the middle of a salty water ocean.
Kolaba Fort also stand testimony of communal harmony among the fort at the time as the fold is the house of Majsid as well as Siddhivinayak Mandir.

The best way to reach the Kolaba Fort is by road as driving by the sea can be pleasure trip. Kolaba Fort is hardly 1 kilometer from the Alibaug Beach. The tourist prefer walking at the time of low tide and take of a boat ride during high tide.
