Raigad Fort:
Raigad Fort is a hill fort situated in the Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra, India and was seized by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who made it his capital in 1674. The magnanimous fort is a whopping 2,700 ft above the sea level located in the Sahyadri mountain range. Famed for its 1700+ steps, trekking is quite common for tourists who visit the Raigad fort. Alternatively, visitors can reach the fort through the ropeway which costs INR 300 for adults and INR 200 for senior citizens and is open from 8am to 5pm.

The main attractions of the Raigad Fort are the samadhi of Chhatrapati Shivaji and his loyal pet dog, Waghya, Nagarkhana Darwaja, which is the main door, Mena Darwaja, which was supposedly the private entrance for the ladies of the royal family, Palkhi Darwaja which the King himself used for his convoy and the Takmak Tok, a cliff from where captured prisoners were thrown and executed.

How to reach Raigad Fort?
There are several ways to reach Raigad fort, one way is through a 5-hour long road trip through Varand Ghat. The visitors can also travel on the NH17 in Mumbai to reach the fort.
The best time to visit Raigad Fort is during the winters. The opening and closing timing for the Raigad fort is 8 am to 5.30 pm, respectively. The entry fee charged for Indians above 15 years of age is INR 25 and for foreigners is INR 300. A charge of INR.25 is levied if you want to take a video camera with you.
