Discovered by yesteryear superstar and director Dev Anand for his directorial venture Hum Naujawan (1985), Akshay Anand is an Indian actor, writer and director, known for his work in the Hindi film and TV industry. Born as John Gardener, he renamed himself as Akshay Anand after his character in his television debut Indradhanush (1988). Over the years Akshay has starred in movies like Umar 55 Ki Dil Bachpan Ka (1992), Pyaar Ka Tarana (1993), Indraprastham (1996), Aur Ek Prem Kahani (1996), Daava (1997), Tamanna (1998), Ghulam (1998), Zakhm (1998), Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan (1999), 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002), Uuf Kya Jaadoo Mohabbat Hai... (2004), Agni Pankh (2004) and Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (2011). He made his Kannada film debut with the blockbuster hit, America America (1995). Akshay has been a part of hit TV shows like Indradhanush (1989), Gubbare (1999-2000), Kehta Hai Dil (2002-2005), Saat Phere... Saloni Ka Safar (2005-2009), Viraasat (2006-2007), Bandini (2009-2011), Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the year (2012-2013), Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani (2015-2017), Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka? (2017) and Saam Daam Dand Bhed (2017- ).
In 2018 Akshay made his debut as a writer and director with the Hindi drama, Jaane Kyun De Yaaron. The cast includes Kabir Bedi, Daya Pandey, Hitesh Bhardwaj, Usha Nadkarni, Viju Khote and Chetna Pande. Akshay, apart from writing and directing the movie, also has a role in the movie.
