K. V. Anand was initially a photojournalist, then moved to cinematography and finally settled on being a director. He worked as an assistant to cinematographer P.C. Sreeram and consequently took up the role himself in more than 14 films in languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi. He won a National Film Award for his work in the film Thenmavin Kombath (1994). The blockbuster and Anand`s directorial debut, Kana Kandaen (2005), was the turning point after which he became a full time director. He has directed both Bollywood and South Indian films. His 2019 releases include Kaappaan.
