Veteran actor Pradeep Kumar was well-known for his contribution to Hindi and Bengali cinema. Beginning his career as an actor at the tender age of 17, he made his debut in the Bengali film industry and acted in Alaknanda in 1947. He then decided to make his foray into the Hindi film industry and bagged an important role in Anand Math (1952). Pradeep Kumar soon starred in a lead role in Anarkali (1953) and acted opposite the then coveted actress Vyjayanthimala in Nagin (1954).

Even after his career went a little rocky in the 1950s, he made a smashing comeback and starred in seven films with Meena Kumari over the years, among which were Bandhan (1956 film), Chitralekha (1964), Bahu Begum (1967), Bheegi Raat, Aarti and Noorjehan. Kumar was honoured with the Kalakar Award-Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, after he slowly transitioned to character roles in films. Pradeep Kumar left for his heavenly abode on 27 October 2001, at the age of 76.
