Samira Koppikar calls her father `The Music Doctor` since he introduced her to Kishore Kumar, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. This is what inspired her journey into music, to ultimately become a singer, songwriter and music composer. During college Samira was part of a band called Ansh, and later she started recording for advertising jingles. She struck gold when Indian jazz gurus Louis Banks and Joe Alvarez noticed her at a jam session and soon became her mentors. Her very first live performance was with them.

After several performances at music festivals, Samira had her first Bollywood break as a playback singer with the song Aaj Phir Tum Pe in Hate Story 2 (2014) which got around 12 million hits on YouTube. She also released her debut single Bebasi (2014), as a musician in the Indie genre. Her debut as a music composer was for Maati Ka Palang in NH10 (2015). Her song Bairaagi from Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) was nominated for the Filmfare Awards and Mirchi Music Awards. Samira loves listening to new music and isn`t afraid of reinventing her own style. Her 2019 release includes Laal Kaptaan.
