One of the most acclaimed actresses of Bengali cinema, Suchitra Sen was an Indian actress who worked in the film industry for almost three decades. Rising to fame in the early 1950s, she went on to appear in movies such as Saat Pake Bandha, Rajlakshmi O Srikanta, and Ora Thake Odhare.

In 1972, Sen was awarded India's fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cinema. She also achieved the feat of becoming the first Indian actress to win an award at an international film festival: she won the Silver Prize for Best Actress for playing a disillusioned alcoholic in Saptapadi at the 1963 Moscow International Film Festival. Sen succumbed to a heart attack on 17th January 2014.
