A theatre enthusiast, actor, ad filmmaker, director, and writer, Vijay Maurya is best known for his work in the Hindi and Marathi film industries. The Mumbai-born Vijay has been associated with Prithvi Theatre for over a decade and a half, being a part of 14 original plays, which ran upto 2500 shows. His 2007 play Sa Hi Besura, which was first performed in 2007, is still running successful shows across the city. While he is an established theatre actor, he made his foray into the film industry with Ram Gopal Verma's Satya in 1998, following which he has been a part of critically acclaimed movies such as Black Friday, Socha Na Tha, and Mumbai Meri Jaan.

In 2010, he made his debut as a writer with the movie Striker, writing its screenplay, story, and dialogues, and later also co-wrote the story of the National Film Award-winning movie Chillar Party. In 2016, Vijay made his directorial debut with the Marathi movie Photocopy, which he also co-wrote the dialogues and screenplay of along with its lyrics. Among his other credits are Bhoothnath Returns, Dhanak, and Tumhari Sulu. His 2019 release includes Gully Boy
