The three-time Sun Kudumbam Awards and a winner of the Tamil Nadu State Award, Viji Chandrasekhar is an Indian TV and film actress who primarily works in Tamil cinema and Tamil serials. A protegee of one of the finest filmmakers in Tamil industry, K. Balachander, Viji made her debut opposite Rajinikanth in the super hit film, Thillu Mullu (1980). Although the film did well at the box office, Viji took a break from acting to complete her studies and she stayed away from facing the camera until the 90s.

She made her comeback on the silver screen with the Kannada film Thavarumane Udugore (1991), a year later, she made her debut in the Malayalam film industry with Devi IAS. After experimenting with working outside the Tamil film industry, she made her comeback in the Tamil film industry in 1993 and once again collaborated with the acclaimed directed Bharatiraja for his directorial venture, Kizhakku Cheemayile (1993).

Whilst Viji appeared mostly in the leading role during the initial years of her career, by the dawn of the new millennium, she started playing mostly supporting and character roles. She won wide critical acclaim for her role in Aarohanam (2012). Some of her other notable film credits include Pathemari (2015), Vetrivel (2016), and Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren (2018), a Tamil adventure comedy-drama directed by Arumuga Kumar.

Apart from films, Viji Chandrasekhar also has an elaborate career in the TV industry; in her career spanning over two decades, the veteran actress has appeared in more than 35 series and along the way won several awards and laurels. Some of her notable credits on TV include Bandham (1994), Theekul Veiral (1998), Alaigal (2001-03), Penn (2006), Azhagi (2011-16) and Amudha Oru Aacharyakuri.
