Dilliwaalon, March is a good month for you. Especially if you’re a theatre-lover and have missed stories being played out on the stage. Here’s our guide to the best plays performed live in the capital.

‘Tansen’

Everyone has heard of the musical legend Tansen. This eponymous Hindi play (pictured above) is about the journey of Ramtanu Pandey (his birth name) to Tansen. The play incorporates music and dance to propel the story as it explores an artist’s quest for greatness.

‘Jab We Separated’

Written and directed by Rakesh Bedi, this Hindi play tells the story of a couple who are acrimoniously waiting out the six-month reconciliatory period after filing for divorce. In the meantime, their old neighbour tries to impress upon them the importance of staying together by emphasizing how terrible loneliness feels.

‘Dastan-e-Karn az Mahabharat’

The story of Karna, the legendary warrior from the Mahabharata is a popular one. One of the epic’s most tragic figures, Karna was promised more glory and fame after his death by Krishna. This dastangoi, in Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Farsi and Arabic, is on the life of Karna.

‘12 Angry Men’

‘Katha Ek Kans Ki’

Krishna’s main adversary his uncle, Kans is renowned in Indian mythology for being the tyrant ruler of Mathura. The drama delves into the psyche of Kans.
