10 Places In Europe We Experienced Through Bollywood Films

The first time we saw Europe on the big screen in Bollywood was probably ‘An Evening In Paris’. With time, we saw more of it, thanks to the legendary Yash Chopra. The love for Europe continued with Karan Johar loving London and having British children sing India’s national anthem in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was just brilliant!

With time, we saw Bollywood explore more and more of Europe with movies like Tamasha and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. We chalk out the places that we’ve seen in Bollywood so far and yes, every place is on our bucket list.

1. Lake Alpenrausch, Switzerland

When we saw Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor sing in ‘Chandni‘, we all wanted to head to lake Alpenrausch in Switzerland. Later, we saw Switzerland in almost every Yash Chopra movie including ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge‘, Darr, Bachna Ae Haseeno, and Dhoom 3. So much so that the lake was renamed as Chopra Lake.

2. Trafalgar Square, London

When we saw Rohan dance to Vande Mataram all around London in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, we too, wanted to do the same! Since Amrish Puri fed London ke kabootar at Trafalgar Square in Dilwale Dhulania Le Jaayenge to when Ranbir Kapoor cried on London roads in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, we’ve seen so much of London. Recently, we saw Shah Rukh Khan sing ‘Challa’ in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. London was a part of movies including Cocktail and Fan.

3. Eiffel Tower, Paris

Recently, we saw the Eiffel Tower in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Befikre. Having said that, we saw the French capital in movies like Sangam, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Queen.

4. Bruges, Belgium

The song ‘Chaar Kadam’ in PK starring Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput was extensively shot in Burges, Belgium. We saw the Market Square, Sint-Jorisstraat, and the Beguinage.

5. Costa Brava, Spain

Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobaara made us want to make a trip to Spain that will not happen but one can always hope. The hilarious trio went to places like Costa Brava, Seville, Barcelona, and Pamplona.

6. Mykonos Island, Greece

chalte chalte

As much as we adored Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan sing ‘Tauba tumhare yeh ishaare’ at Mykonos Island in Greece; we adored the place as much! Apart from Mykonos, Santorini, Athens, Rhodes have been popular choices to shoot movies like Wanted, Bang Bang, and Tashan.

7. Museumplein, Amsterdam

hum tum

Hum Tum showed us Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan teasing each other at places like Amsterdam Royal Palace, Aran Pub, Hard Rock Cafe, and Museumplein. More recently, we saw Kangana Ranaut do the ‘Hungama Ho Gaya’ in Queen at a club called ‘NL’ in Amsterdam.

8. Corsica, France

‘What happens in Corsica, stays in Corsica.’ Unlike the usual France we ever got to see in Bollywood movies, Imtiaz Ali took us to Corsica in Tamasha, an island on the border of Italy and France. Grotte di Bonifacio, Restonica Valley, Hotel Demeure Castel Brando, and Place du Donjon, Bastia are where the 91-day-shoot took place.

9. Vrtba Gardens, Prague

Imtiaz Ali would definitely be the best travel partner! Rockstar was extensively shot in Prague, including the songs ‘Hawa Hawa’ and ‘Aur Ho’. Vrtba Gardens,  Sychrov Castle,  Karlstejn Castle, and  Charles Bridge in Czechoslovakia, were seen in this movie. Also, the song ‘Radha’ from Jab Harry Met Sejal was shot in Vrtba Gardens in Prague.

10. Budapest Chain Bridge, Budapest

A sequence of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal‘ was shot at Liberty Bridge in Budapest in Hungary. Sushant Singh Rajput- Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Raabta’ was shot at places like Keleti Train Station, Callas Cafe Restaurant and Heroes Square in Budapest, Hungary. ‘Hum Dil Chuke Sanam‘ was the most memorable movie that was shot in Budapest, the climax sequence was in Royal Hungarian Opera House and Budapest Chain Bridge.

Is Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ As Good As The Original?

Priyadarshan’s 2007 horror-comedy ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ is easily one of our favourite Bollywood movies. Stellar performances, a fantastic storyline, the foot-tapping title track and the ghostly entity Manjulika render it a must-watch. Anees Bazmee’s standalone sequel smartly lifts the elements that made the OG movie work, but give us entirely new characters and plot.
