Acting might have nothing to do with looks, but, rarely does it happen that we get actors and actresses who aren’t a feast for eyes. So much so those beauty pageants too, are sometimes considered a ticket to Bollywood as many actresses have entered the film career after being crowned as a Miss India, Miss World or a Miss Universe. While some of them did really well as actresses, many left a subtle mark on the industry and were unable to create a space for themselves. However, you will be surprised to know how so many actresses have actually been winners of beauty pageants! Here are some of them:
1. Zeenat Aman
Winner of the Miss India Asia Pacific, she is known for her bold looks and was applauded for the ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ number in the 1971 ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. Later, the actress also raised eyebrows with her bold exposing scenes in Satyam Shivam Sundaram and till date remains one of the beauty queens of the yesteryear movies.
2. Juhi Chawla
Before debuting opposite Aamir Khan in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, Juhi Chawla was crowned as the Miss India 1984 and after that, there was no looking back for this beautiful woman!
She is till date considered one of the most beautiful women in the world, and she proved that true by winning the Miss World crown in 1994. Post that Aishwarya not only made her mark in Bollywood but also was one of the first actresses to venture into Hollywood.
4. Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen after winning Miss India represented India with Aishwarya at the Miss Universe beauty contest and made the country proud by winning the Miss Universe title. Aishwarya was crowned Miss World and Sushmita became the Miss Universe, 1994. The actress has been an active philanthropist and is known to be the mother of two adopted daughters.
5. Lara Dutta
The ‘Partner’ actress is Miss Universe 2000. After trying her hands in modeling and ads, Lara Dutta made her debut with Andaaz.
She is the one example of beauty and brains. The ‘Quantico’ actress started as Miss World 2000, and the world knows the rest! She is a successful actress, both national and international, a model and has also tried her luck in singing.
7. Neha Dhupia
Crowned as the Femina Miss India 2002, Neha Dhupia is featured in ‘Qayamat’ and ‘Julie’. The actress, however, was not very much welcomed by the audience. Currently, she is hosting her interview show on the radio, #NoFilterNeha.
8. Dia Mirza
This Bollywood diva actually won Miss Asia Pacific in 2000 and made her debut with her superhit ‘Rehna Hai Terre Dil Men’ in 2001. She did not last much in the industry but is a frequent face in the fashion industry.
Jacqueline is Miss Sri Lanka Universe 2006 holder and is currently going through her career highs with ‘Gentlemen’ almost on the verge of release.
She won the Miss India contest at the age of 17 in the year 1981 and was known for phenomenal acting in ‘Damini’, ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Ghatak’. She quit the industry very early and got married.
Winner of the Miss India 1993, she soared to fame with her film Vastav. However, she quit Bollywood after tying the knot.
12. Pooja Batra
She was Miss India Asia Pacific in 1993 and debuted with her movie ‘Virasat’. However, we didn’t see much of her in Bollywood.
13. Tanushree Dutta
She rose to fame with ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ after starring opposite to Emraan Hashmi. She was crowned as the Miss India Universe 2004.
Whether or not you win a beauty pageant or not, Bollywood is eventually a platform where skill, talent, and destiny play a huge role!
