Movies based on true stories have a different fan base, and Hollywood regularly caters to their taste. They are stories that inspire and inform you about past events and give you a perspective on what actually happened. In 2020, we saw gems like The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Tesla that gave us a deeper insight into some of the most historical events and people. Even in 2021, we have a line-up of movies that will give us a dose of reality.

The Dig

Based on a book of the same name, the movie follows the 1939 excavation of Sutton Ho where two early medieval cemeteries were discovered. The movie stars Ralph Fiennes as Basil Brown who is one of the archaeologists.

Minamata

W. Eugene Smith played by Johnny Depp is a war photographer who travels back to Japan and documents the devastating effect of mercury poisoning also known as Minamata disease in coastal communities.

The Mauritanian

Mohamedou Ould Salahi, who was detained Guantanamo Bay detention camp without charge or trial. Nancy Hollander and her associate Teri Duncan take charge to get justice for him.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me To It

This movie reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. It is considered one of the most sensational cases from their files.

Respect

Based on the singer Aretha Franklin, Respect is an upcoming movie starring Jennifer Hudson as the legendary singer.

The Last Duel

The Last Duel is an upcoming historical drama-thriller film directed by Ridley Scott. The movie is based on a book named The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France by Eric Jager.
