Running Shaadi: Film Review- Once Again, Tapsee Steals The Show

By Sanaa Surve17 February, 2017 2 min read

Verdict – An interesting movie despite a slow-ish second half.

The audience is convinced that Tapsee Pannu is going to be the next big thing in Bollywood and with a power-packed performance yet again, she has proved to us that we aren't wrong. Starring opposite Amit Sadh in Amit Roy's Running Shaadi, she does a fairly decent job in breaking stereotypes and winning the hearts of the viewers. Running Shaadi, initially named Running, is a unique story of two boys who come up with a website to help couples flee and get married.

The story starts with a 16-year-old Nimmi (Tapsee) missing her period and taking Bharose's (Amit Sadh) help to have an abortion. During the process, a mutual liking takes place between the two but things start changing soon after Nimmi joins college and meets new people. Bharose, who works at Nimmi's father's textile shop is still very much into her but is tired of her ignorance. Having lost his patience and being humiliated enough, he quits his job and even agrees to get married to the girl in Patna, which his mama wants him to.

It is during his jobless period that an idea to help couples comes into his mind. Bharose, along with his friend Cyberjeet (Arsh Bajwa) then comes up with Running Shaadi. A website that gives the right guidance to couples in running away from home and getting married. The two of them become famous in no time. After 49 successful cases, the 50th case that comes to him is of Nimmi and her boyfriend Shunty who want to flee from home but need Bharose's help. A shattered Bharose, after debating, finally agrees but wait, a twist awaits right there!

The 1 hour 55-minute rom-com gives you a good dose of humor and at the same time makes you intently watch the movie. Amit Sadh, who has been a part of hit movies like Sultan and Kai Po Che delivers an extremely fine performance and his chemistry with Tapsee is something to watch out for. The minor characters of the movie, be it the Bihari mama played by Brijendra Kala, the nerdy best friend Cyberjeet or the clients, all make the movie bearable till the end. What bothers is the shabbily edited out ".com", beeped and blurred in almost all scenes, and it gets irritating after a while. The pace drops in the second half but and the end may not be as satisfying as the movie itself, but the interesting plot makes up for most things.

The background score of the movie is decent and goes smooth with the scenes. Decent importance is given to locations as well – be it the time when Nimmi and Bharose are fighting with Golden Temple in the background or the breath-taking locations of Dalhousie.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Unexpected plot twists, good lead actors and well-timed humor – what more does one need to walk out the theatre satisfied? Loosely inspired by Jab We Met and Band Baaja Baaraat, the movie qualifies to be a one-time watch for sure.
