4 Action Shows To Watch While You Wait For ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 4

Blending martial arts, charm, humour and nostalgia, Netflix’s Cobra Kai is as much a teen drama as it is a throwback to classic movie franchise Karate Kid. The show cleverly flips the iconic characters on their heads, with Daniel Russo becoming more of a bad guy and Johnny Lawrence learning how to play nicely with others, bringing a man stuck in the ’80s to the 21st century.

With season three of the show having recently concluded, there’s a long wait ahead for fans of the show. Here are some series to watch while you wait for the next set of Cobra Kai episodes.

‘GLOW’

Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress living in Los Angeles in the ’80s finds an unexpected chance at stardom in the spandex-clad world of women’s wrestling.
Creator: Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch
Cast: Alison Brie, Marc Maron, Betty Gilpin
Seasons: 3 (2017-2019)

‘Warrior’

Martial arts drama Warrior is a show that should be watched with the same fervour people are consuming The Queen’s Gambit. It’s high pulp and like all exemplars of the genre, it combines the sensual pleasures of action with terrific plotting and a great story. Based on an eight-page note outline by Bruce Lee, Warrior is set in 19th century San Francisco. It was a tumultuous time for the city, which was buffeted by internecine conflicts between Irish and Chinese immigrants and Chinese gangs or tongs. The titular warrior is Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), an immigrant who arrives in San Francisco in search of his sister. Ah Sahm is a martial arts prodigy and a smart mouth because of which he frequently gets into scraps that he almost always wins.
Producers: Jonathan Tropper, Justin Lin, Shannon Lee
Cast: Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin
Seasons: 2 (2019, 2020)
Streaming on: Disney+ Hotstar

‘Into The Badlands’

In a ruthless territory controlled by feudal barons, a mighty martial artist seeks justice and a young boy with special powers is repeatedly captured by those wanting to harness his gift.
Creator: Alfred Gough, Miles Millar
Cast: Daniel Wu, Orla Brady, Emily Beecham
Seasons: 3 (2015-2019)
Streaming on: Netflix

‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’

This dramedy follows a pair of high schoolers Sterling and Blair who become bounty hunters.
Creator: Kathleen Jordan
Cast: Maddie Phillips, Anjelica Bette Fellini, Kadeem Hardison
Seasons: 1 (2020)
Streaming on: Netflix
