Canadian pop-heartthrob Shawn Mendes opens up about his life and takes us along a wild ride from doing sold-out arenas to working on new music to just chilling with his family and his girlfriend Camila Cabello.
The documentary opens with Mendes in the shower unable to speak cause of the strain on his vocal cords. Straight up this sets the tone of the film, where Shawn is trying to just be real and raw as he tells his life story to the world. This coming-of-age documentary takes us back to when Shawn started out by making vines in his bedroom, to his first concert at 15-years old, to him touring and doing 105 sold-out shows in cities across the globe.
The pressures of fame!
While living the life of fame to its fullest Shawn in one moment said that in spite of being so grateful for where he’s at in life right now sometimes he misses the mundane and the quiet things of living a normal life. Shawn also opened up about the immense pressures and responsibilities that come with living his life. in one instance we see him breaking down and crying because he had to cancel a show for 40,000 people a few hours before it could start because he had strained his vocal cords and was unable to sing.
A hopeless romantic
Shawn also didn’t shy away from showing us his hopeless romantic side
for his singer-girlfriend Camilla by saying, “I can’t write one song that’s not about you!” Well, now we know who has been his muse for all his music. Whether you find this overly cheesy or sweet, his love life feels like it’s straight out of a Disney movie.
In Wonder tries hard to paint a human portrait of Shawn but on some level, it fails to go a little deeper and ends up just showing us the parts of fame we have already seen and heard of before.
