“A perfect murder is not just about committing murder but getting away with it,” declares Inspector Gharge, played by Satish Rajwade in Vijay Kenkre’s Marathi thriller A Perfect Murder. The play is a Marathi adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder, which in turn was based on English playwright Frederick Knott’s eponymous thriller. The play, which has staged over 100 shows, makes its post-COVID return in Pune on Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 26.
The suspense thriller is about a painstakingly planned murder gone awry. Unlike a classic whodunit that has you guessing till the end, it focuses on whether the mastermind will get away with it or not. Meera Majumdar (Priya Marathe) is torn between two men – her husband Niranjan (Pushkar Shrotri) and ex-boyfriend Kamlesh (Aniket Vishwasrao). She agrees to meet Kamlesh for the last time to end their affair, unaware that Niranjan not only knows about them but has also planned to exact his revenge by plotting her murder. However, the plot, planned down to the smallest detail, unravels in the most unexpected manner. The entry of the aforementioned Inspector Gharge has Niranjan relying on his guile to turn the situation to his advantage.
