No one would disagree that Konkona Sensharma is one of the most talented actors in Indian cinema. Born to writer Mukul Sharma and actor and director Aparna Sen, Sensharma made her debut as a child artist in the Bengali film ‘Indira’ (1983). Much later, she starred in ‘Ek Je Aachhe Kanya’ (2000), a Bengali thriller before going on to work in Hindi films. Some of her noteworthy performances include her roles in ‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’ (2002), ‘Page 3’ (2005), ‘Omkara’ (2006) and ‘Wake Up Sid’ (2009). She made her directorial debut in 2017, with her film ‘A Death in the Gunj’, which got her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. Most recently, Konkona appeared in the medical thriller ‘Mumbai Diaries: 26/11’, as Chitra Das, the Social Services Director of a hospital with a troubled past.

‘Mr and Mrs Iyer’

Konkona plays Meenakshi Iyer, a Tamil housewife in this critically acclaimed film. A fateful bus journey during a communal riot makes her form a strange alliance with Raja Chowdhury (Rahul Bose), a Bengali Muslim. Konkona even mastered the accent for this film and was awarded the National Award for Best Actress.

In this film adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, Sensharma plays Indu Tyagi, antagonist Langda Tyagi’s (Saif Ali Khan) wife. Here, Sensharma essays a complex role as a conflicted woman who is torn between her bloodthirsty husband and her brother, Omkara (Ajay Devgn). This film landed her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award as well as the National Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In this dramatised version of the Talwar double murder case of 2008, Sensharma plays Nupur Talwar, Aarushi Talwar’s mother. Her portrayal of a grief-stricken mother in the not-guilty version and a mysterious woman in the guilty version of the film, was equal parts stirring and compelling.

‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’

In this dark comedy, Sensharma breathed life into the character of Shireen Aslam, a burkha-clad housewife who secretly works as a saleswoman. Through her character, she helped shine the spotlight on issues such as marital rape and abortion.

‘Ajeeb Dastaans’

‘15 Park Avenue’

‘Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’

Seeking to reignite the lost spark in her personal life, she’s soon entranced by a delivery boy, Osman (Amol Parashar).

‘Luck By Chance’
