Bollywood Hits & Misses: June 2017

June was the month which every Bollywood movie fan was eagerly waiting for, majorly because of the Eid release and also because it was the time when the season of romance begins – monsoon. June saw a number of releases and all the movies were made with all the heart and efforts. Salman Bhai's much-awaited Tubelight released and the super hyped Raabta starring Sushant Singh Rajput released as well. The month also saw some small movies that were big in terms of content and won our hearts. For all the movie buffs who regularly populate the weekend shows, these results might not be something they aren't aware of but if you are looking out for a list of which movies to watch and which ones to skip, have a look at the hits and misses of June 2017 here.

Hits

A Death in the Gunj

The month started with a stunning release which was also the directorial debut of Konkana Sen Sharma. With words falling short while explaining how beautiful and amazing an actor she is, she again gave us a reason to go gaga over her. A Death in the Gunj, set in Jharkhand is a treat to the eyes and the kind of cinema our industry desperately needs.

Hanuman Da' Damdaar

Hanuman Da' Damdaar was mythology in a whole new avatar. The film was hyped because Salman Khan was behind the voice of Hanuman but there is more to the film than just Sallu Bhai. It was said to be a wholesome entertainment by the viewers and a movie every kid should watch.

Phullu

Starring Sharib Hashmi who impressed all the filmistaanis with his act in the 2012 film Filmistan was back again with a subject that is considered a taboo in our societies. The film forces you to think and do something about an issue that has been there since long and now needs to be addressed. Even after having a pretty abrupt ending, the movie successfully impressed the audience.

There were also a few movies like G Kutta Se that dealt with the harsh realities of life and Dear Maya that marked the comeback of Manisha Koirala, both the movies were received very well. One movie to our surprise was immensely loved by the audience – Love You Family

Misses

Tubelight

Tubelight was easily the most awaited movie of this year and it had a great opening. Salman Khan was seen in an all new avatar. But his cuteness and innocence couldn't save the movie from getting critically slammed. The movie did not do as well as all the other Salman Khan Eid releases did. But nonetheless, it was so nice to see Salman Khan in an all new avatar, giving his best to play his character.

Raabta

Raabta had a great cast – Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon, crew and VFX, but all of it could not stand as an alternative to a good screenplay. Viewers had really high expectations from the movie but it didn't stand up to the expectations.

Behen Hogi Teri

Behen Hogi Teri received mixed reviews. The film starred Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Hassan was strong in the comedy department. However, it was not considered a Rajkummar kind of a movie. The movie had something missing that made it an entry in this list.

Bank Chor

Bank Chor starred Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi along with a few other acclaimed actors. The movie had its share of fun but stretched a bit here and there. Repetitive comedy might have distracted the writer's attention from the script and hence the execution. This Bank Chor did fine but not as it was expected to be.

There were other Bollywood movies like Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha, Mirror Game, Dobaara: See Your Evil and The Wishing Tree who came on screen and went away without making it to the mainstream. So, this was it for the month of June, we will be back next month with the hits and misses of July, same time same place. Till then keep reading the BookMyShow blog for your share of movie updates.
