One that they are indebted to their talent, which got them all the fame and luxury and to lead the kind of lifestyle that almost all of us envy! But before they got on the route to stardom, most of them led an intense life. Scroll down to know what we mean by “intense”.

We bring you a list of some famous celebrities who did their bit for their country by serving in the defense forces. Yes, you read it right! By the time you have read this article, you would have developed a whole new perception of these artists. So brace yourself for this…

Bill Cosby
The actor-comedian was enlisted in the Navy, in 1956. During his four-year stint, he worked in physical therapy and served as a Hospital Corpsman. He also served with Navy and Marine Corps personnel, who were injured in the Korean War.

Chuck Norris
The world isn’t new to memes about this martial arts professional, but did you know that he had served in the United States Air Force, in 1958? When he joined the force, he was posted in Osan Air Base in South Korea, and there he served as an Air Policeman. That’s where he began his training in Judo and Tang Soo Do.

Elvis Presley
The King of Rock n’ Roll also served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. There he learnt karate and also rose up to the rank of Sergeant before getting discharged from the forces.

Sean Connery
The iconic ‘James Bond‘, joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16. During that period, this Scottish actor got himself inked like all the other sailors. He got two classic tattoos – “Mum and Dad” and “Scotland Forever”.

Jimi Hendrix
The legendary guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, was enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961. He was trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He was soon discharged from his services the following year.

Hugh Hefner
Before establishing the Playboy Enterprises, Hugh Hefner, served in the U.S. Army as an infantry clerk during World War II. He wrote for the military newspaper.

Clint Eastwood
This iconic movie star, known for his macho looks and Western films was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1951. He was appointed as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. One of his adventurous moments was when he along with three pilots escaped from a sinking aircraft.

MC Hammer
The “U Can’t Touch This” hip-hop singer served in the Navy right after spending a brief amount of time in college. He worked in the Navy as the aviation storekeeper.

B. B. King
The King of Blues, who passed away in May last year, also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his brief service, he went on to become a disc jockey in Memphis, Tennessee.

The “Mr. Boombastic” singer was a part of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman with 5th Battalion 10th Marines. During his stint, he was a part of the forces in the Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War.
