6 Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub Films to Watch Before His New Show

Whether it is on an OTT platform or the silver screen, actor Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub has never failed to impress. Most will know him as Sadiq, the loyal sidekick to Shah Rukh Khan in Raees or as Chintu Kumar Singh from Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The talented actor will soon be seen as the lead in SonyLIV’s upcoming show, A Simple Murder.

Born in Delhi, Ayyub studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya and secured a Bachelor’s degree in science from Kirori Mal College. He discovered his love for theatre and acting after enrolling at the National School of Drama. Within ten days of his arrival in Mumbai, Ayyub had bagged a role in the film No One Killed Jessica. 

He’s now all set to play the lead in SonyLIV’s A Simple Murder, a darkly humorous crime drama, which releases on Friday, November 20. Until then, watch some of his best works till date.

‘No One Killed Jessica’ 

In his first film, Ayyub played the role of Manu Sharma, the man who murdered Jessica Lal. His performance impressed the critics and bagged him nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut and the Zee Cine Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.

‘Raanjhanaa’ 

Ayyub starred alongside Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Abhay Deol in Aanand L. Rai’s Raanjhanaa. He essayed the role of Murari Gupta, a witty Hindu pandit and Kundan’s (Dhanush) best friend. His character had some of the most quick-witted lines.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ 

Once again, Ayyub teamed up with Anand L. Rai for Tanu Weds Manu Returns. He played the part of Chintu Kumar Sharma, whom Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) meets in Kanpur at her parents’ home. Chintu goes on to develop an obsession with Tanu. While the film itself met with a lukewarm reception, Ayyub’s character did leave a mark.

‘Raees’ 

Ayyub soon featured in one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing films of 2017, alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. He played the role of Sadiq, Raees’ trusted friend and sidekick. The film was loosely based on the actual life of criminal Abdul Latif and went on to become Ayyub’s highest-grossing release.

‘Article 15’ 

Anubhav Sinha’s crime thriller, which spotlighted the issue of caste discrimination in India, was also one of Ayyub’s most promising projects. He co-starred with Ayushmann Khurrana, playing the role of Nishad, an activist.

‘Chhalaang’

Most recently, Ayyub was spotted in the film Chhalaang, which released on Amazon Prime Video. He starred alongside Rajkummar Rao and Nushrratt Bharuccha and played the role of a PT teacher who locks horns with his colleague (played by Rao) and also tries to win the affections of Nushrratt’s character. The movie has been directed by Hansal Mehta.
