Diversity has become more and more important in the international entertainment industry. In the past decade, ethnic entertainers have been winning the hearts worldwide. Whether it's television or the stand-up comedy circuit, many comedians with an  Indian origin have already made a mark, all on the strength of their talent. The world has come far in the last 10 years and as we come closer to celebrating BookMyShow's 10th anniversary, we also celebrate these ten best Indian-origin comedians of the last decade who are making us proud. 

Aziz Ansari

Aziz Ansari gained fame while playing the role of Tom Haverford on the NBC show Parks and Recreation. He has done stand-up specials in the past and now even has his own critically acclaimed Netflix show, Master of None

Kunal Nayyar

Kunal Nayyar is another comedian who made it big on American television. Born in London and brought up in New Delhi, he's known for his role as Rajesh on the sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, which has been running successfully for 11 seasons. 

Russell Peters

Over the last decade, this Canadian Indian-origin comedian is one of the most famous stand-up comics in the world. He often does international stand-up tours. His stand-up special, Almost Famous, can be found on Netflix.

Paul Varghese

A Texas comedian with Malayali immigrant parents first came into the limelight when he made it to the semi-finals of the show Last Comic Standing. He's won many stand-up comedy competitions and still performs regularly in USA

Aasif Mandvi

Born in Mumbai and brought up in England, Aasif Mandvi started his comedic career with The Daily Show With Jon Stewart where he became a regular correspondent in 2007. He also recently guest-starred in A Series of Unfortunate Events. 

Hasan Minhaj

Born in a Muslim family in Uttar Pradesh and grown up in California, this young comedian also gained fame through The Daily Show. He recently got his own Netflix special, Homecoming King, in March. One of his most notable accomplishments giving a speech at the White House Correspondent's Dinner 2017, which was greatly appreciated

Samson Koletkar

The Jewish Indian stand up comedian can be found doing shows in India as well as abroad. He co-founded Desi Comedy Fest, the largest South Asian comedy festival in America. Going by the name Mahatma Moses, he frequently does stand-up across the US. 

Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling was born to Indian parents and grew up in the US. She started doing stand up and then moved on to making people laugh on the silver screen. She was well-received as Kelly Kapoor in The Office and is the creator and star of the show The Mindy Project. She has also written two books which hit the bestseller list. 

Kal Penn

Kal Penn was the co-lead in the comedy movie series Harold and Kumar which made him one of Hollywood's most popular characters. Penn is not only known for his comedic chops but also is a respected actor in the drama genre. He even had a recurring role in House M.D. but had to be written out when he joined the Public Engagement Committee in the White Houadministrationion under Obama. 

Lilly Singh

About 10 years ago, nobody could think YouTube could become a career. But in 2017, Lilly Singh is a full-time YouTube vlogger. She makes people crack up with her comedy sketches that resonate with the Indian as well as international audiences. She recently launched a book and uploads videos to her channel frequently.
