The highly awaited news of theatres re-opening across Maharashtra has got cinema lovers understandably excited. After Bollywood announced a plethora of the theatrical releases for 2021-2022, it’s now Disney India’s turn. From a slew of superhero titles spanning the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to historical dramas to animated adventures and more, here’s what’s coming your way.
‘The Last Duel’
An adaptation of American author Eric Jager’s eponymous book, this historical drama is set in 14th century France and stars Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer.

‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’
This movie is an animated sci-fi that focuses on a socially awkward middle-schooler Barney and his digital BFF bot, Ron (Zach Galifianakis).

Easily one of the most awaited movies from the MCU, this superhero flick (pictured above) follows the Eternals, an immortal alien race that emerges from hiding after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

This animated musical follows Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz), a young Colombian, who lives in an enchanted town with her magical family. When her family’s magical abilities are under threat, she sets out on a quest to save them.

‘West Side Story’
Steven Spielberg’s musical drama is an adaptation of the renowned Broadway musical of the same. Set in 1950s New York City, the film focuses on the romance between Tony and Maria, who belong to rival street gangs.

‘The King’s Man’
The third instalment of the popular ‘Kingsman’ film series, this period spy drama is a prequel to the first two films. It also serves as an origin story for the fictional secret service organization.

‘Death on the Nile’
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the movie is based on the 1937 Agatha Christie novel of the same name. Hercule Poirot is called to investigate when a passenger on board the SS Karnak is found murdered. The film was meant to release in October 2020 but was delayed by the pandemic.

Directed by Domee Shi, ‘Turning Red’ is an animated film by Disney and Pixar. It’s about Mei, a 13-year-old girl who turns into a red panda every time she’s excited or stressed.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness’
Directed by Sam Raimi, the Marvel movie is the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016). Benedict Cumberbatch plays Dr Stephen Strange, whose investigation of the Time Stone has terrible consequences.

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
Taika Waititi directs the sequel to Marvel’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale.
