There has been a new movie universe in Hollywood and they are going to deliver their first epic crossover with Godzilla vs Kong. If you haven’t been keeping up with the MonsterVerse you might confuse Godzilla and King Kong as the characters from older movies and their various reboots. This universe started in 2014 with Godzilla and a new monster named King Kong was introduced in 2017. Now, these monsters are fighting and if you feel a little lost, read on to know more.

Who is Godzilla?

While the 2014 Godzilla movie is the 30th movie in the Godzilla franchise, it is the first movie in the MonsterVerse. In this universe, the year is 1999 and the Janjira Nuclear Power Plant experiences unusual seismic activity collapsing the nuclear plant. In 2014, the scientist working at the Janjira Nuclear Power Plant and his son enter the containment zone to find out the cause behind the collapse. They find a chrysalis that is feeding off the nuclear reactor. As they investigate, a MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) emerges from the chrysalis wreaking havoc. Godzilla then emerges from the sea to battle this organism and is left heavily injured at the end of the battle.

Who is King Kong?

The 2017 King Kong movie is a reboot of the franchise and the second monster to be introduced in the MonsterVerse. King Kong lives on an island in the South Pacific. He is the last of his kind after they were massacred by a race of subterranean reptilian creatures called ‘Skullcrawlers’. He now protects the island from these predators until a group of people come to the island and discover him. While on their mission to kill Kong, they discover that a giant Skullcrawler is on the prowl and they decide to help Kong instead to kill the Skullcrawler.

The story so far…

There is an organisation called the Monarch that studies ‘Titans’ and they were the ones who had a hand to play in the awakening of Godzilla and the other monsters. They have awakened other monsters like a three-headed Monster zero which the Godzilla managed to vanquish in the events of the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). The Godzilla has now returned and seems to be wreaking havoc and the organization has enlisted Kong’s help to vanquish the monster once and for all.

Godzilla vs Kong is releasing on 23rd March. You can click on the link below to find out who wins this epic showdown.
