Based on the stories of Beatrix Potter, the first Peter Rabbit film was a huge success. Much like the Alvin and the Chipmunk films, this one featured CGI talking animals in a live-action setting, which families enjoyed quite a lot. Two years later, we now have Peter Rabbit making a return for another adventure in Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
The main cast from the first film has returned for the sequel with Domhnall Gleeson as Thomas McGregor, Rose Byrne as Bea, James Corden voicing the titular rabbit, Margot Robbie voicing Flopsy Rabbit, Elizabeth Debicki voicing Mopsy Rabbit, and Daisy Ridley voicing Cottontail Rabbit. There’s also a new addition to the cast – Selma star David Oyelowo will be playing Percy McGregor.
From the Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway trailer, we can tell that Peter is going to get into some more trouble. When Peter learns that Thomas and Bea will have children soon, he decides that he is better off without them. He also convinces his other animals to run away with him and hijinks ensue – including robbing a farmer’s market. Unfortunately, things don’t go quite according to plan as some of his friends are captured. But Peter is determined to not leave his friends behind and seems to go on a rescue mission to get them back.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is being directed by Will Gluck who had also directed the first film. He had also co-written the screenplay for the first film and is involved with the script for the sequel, so it seems likely that this will have the same humor and charm as the original.
Peter Rabbit 2 is currently scheduled to be released just at the start of the season of summer blockbusters on April 17. It also releases around Easter, which is the perfect time to see a film filled with bunnies. However, it will receive some tough competition at the box office as it competes for the attention of families with Trolls World Tour, which also releases around the same time.
