The man behind one of the most beloved characters from the supremely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. will be stepping into the shoes of another iconic pop culture character. The Iron Man actor will now star in the latest adaptation of The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, the famous children’s books by Hugh Lofting. Titled Dolittle, the live-action film also features an exciting ensemble and voice cast. It is directed and written by Stephen Gaghan from the adapted story by Thomas Shepherd.

With the classic What a Wonderful World playing in the background, the film’s trailer gives us our first glimpse of Downey Jr. in his first non-Marvel movie in five years. John Dolittle, the famed Victorian England veterinarian who can talk to animals, is currently a recluse holed up at the Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of animals for company. Suddenly, Queen Victoria seems to fall gravely ill and Doctor Dolittle must head on an adventurous journey to a mythical island to look for the cure.

Apart from the lead actor in his eccentric new role, Emma Thompson plays Dolittle’s most trusted advisor who is a blue and yellow macaw named Polynesia. Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek is Chee-Chee, an anxious but noble gorilla. John Cena voices an upbeat polar bear named Yoshi who bickers with the cynical ostrich Plimpton voiced by Kumail Nanjiani. Octavia Spencer as Dab-Dab the duck with a metal leg and Tom Holland is Jip, a loyal dog who wears glasses. Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes is a ferocious tiger with gold-tipped fangs named Barry while Selena Gomez plays a friendly giraffe named Betsy. The cast also includes Jessie Buckley as Queen Victoria, Antonio Banderas, Marion Cotillard, and Frances de la Tour, among others.
