Most of the Bollywood movies are set in Delhi, the most recent one being Varun Dhawan’s October. There is so much of Delhi we’ve seen in Bollywood movies that we know what Connaught Place looks like even when we haven’t been there before.
We take you to the places where your favorite Bollywood movies were shot in Delhi.
1. Fan – Dwarka & Rohini Sector-9
Shah Rukh Khan felt all the nostalgia while shooting for Fan. He is a Delhi boy. The portions of his character Gaurav Chandna were shot at Dwarka, Rohini sector 9, Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk and Race Course Road made him feel like home.
2. Delhi 6 – Jama Masjid & Chandni Chowk
Delhi 6 saw the old Delhi which was recreated outside Jaipur but there were scenes that were shot in Delhi. The song ‘Maula Maula’ was shot at Jama Masjid and the part where we see Rohan’s house was in Chandini Chowk.
3. Chashme Buddoor (1981) – North Campus (DU) and Defence Colony
Chashme Buddoor that released in 1981 was shot at the North Campus of Delhi University. Chashme Buddoor. We also see the Talkatora Garden, Defence Colony, Lodhi Gardens and Tughlukabad Fort in the movie.
4. Delhi Belly – Pitampura and Kapashera
Delhi Belly saw Vir Das, Imran Khan, and Kunal Roy Kapur together to show us a completely different Delhi.
5. Dev.D – Paharganj
Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D saw everyone involved in the film in a completely different avatar. Kalki’s brothel is shown in Pahar Ganj.
6. Rockstar – St. Stephens College, Hauz Khas Fort and Nizamuddin Dargah
Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar was a brilliant masterpiece. St. Stephens was Jordan’s college where there were amusing scenes and Jo Bhi Main happened. The melodious Hauz Khas Fort was where Jordan croons Tum Ho. Kun Faaya Kun was shot at Nizamuddin Dargah.
7. Tamasha – Social, Hauz Khas
The heart-wrenching song ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ was shot in Social, Hauz Khas, Delhi. Social, though played an important part in Tara meeting Ved again.
8. Ankhon Dekhi – Dariya Ganj
Rajat Kapoor’s masterpiece ‘Ankhon Dekhi’ was a rare film. Majorly the film was shot at Dariya Gunj.
9. Khosla Ka Ghosla – Civil Lines
Khosla Ka Ghosla starring Boman Irani and Vinay Pathak was based on a true story. It was shot at a bungalow in Civil Lines in North Delhi.
10. 3 Idiots – Connaught Place
The scene where Aamir Khan comments on Kareena Kapoor’s watch is the one that was shot at Connaught Place.
11. Queen – Lajpat Nagar
The scenes that show Kangana eating golgappa and Rajkummar Rao proposing to her on that balloon scooter were shot at Lajpat Nagar, Central Market.
12. Band Baaja Baaraat – Hansraj College and Subhash Nagar
The first time we saw Ranveer Singh on screen was with the song ‘Tarkeebein’ which was shot at Hansraj College. He delivers the ‘Bread pakode ki Kasam’ dialogue at Subhash Nagar’s sweet shop.
13. Aisha – DLF Emporio
Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha was the most relatable film for any Delhi girl. The girls take Amrita Puri’s character shopping at DLF Emporio.
14. Love Aaj Kal – Purana Qila
Love Aaj Kal is a memorable film and it was shot at many places including London and San Francisco. Both the older love story and the modern day love story showed us Delhi. Harleen is confronted by Veer at the Purana Qila and Jai reunites with Meera in the end at the Qila.
15. Rang De Basanti – India Habitat Center
The habitat center was Daljeet’s college and Modern School was shown as the All India Radio Office.
16. Wazir – Hauz Khas Fort
Wazir was a well-made thriller and most of us don’t know that the best lines in the movie were actually improvised between Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar. The movie was shot in Mumbai and briefly at the Hauz Khas Fort in Delhi.
17. Bewakoofiyaan – Connaught Place
This Ayushmann Khuranna- Sonam Kapoor starrer was a light-hearted rom-com. Bewakoofiyan’s song ‘Khamakhaan’ sees Ayushmann and Sonam dancing around at Connaught Place.
18. Vicky Donor – Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Ayushmann and Yami’s debut was quite an impressive one. The shooting took place in Delhi and Kolkata. ‘Pani Da Rang’ was partly shot in Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
19. Pyaar Ka Punchnama – Cyber Hub, Gurgaon
The movie that gave us Kartik Aryan and his monologues, was majorly shot in Delhi and Gurgaon. In a few stills, we see the DLF Cyber Hub.
20. Jhoom Barabar Jhoom – Agrasen ki Baoli
The memorable song from the forgettable movie, ‘Bolna Halke Halke’ was shot at Agrasen ki Baoli. The Baoli is a stepped well with 103 stairs. Many movies including PK and Sultan were shot at Agrasen ki Baoli.
21. Do Dooni Chaar- Lajpat Nagar
The cutest family drama in recent times ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ was based in Delhi. The shooting took place in Lajpat Nagar and Shalimar Bagh.
22.Dil Se- Purana Qila, Connaught Place
Dil Se remains to be the underrated Shah Rukh Khan movie. The climax sequence was shot at Purana Qila and the scene where Shah Rukh is chasing a terrorist was shot at Connaught Place.
23. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag– Shahdara, Rajputana Rifles, Tughlaqabad Fort.
The acclaimed Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was shot all over Delhi. We see Shahdara, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Rajputana Rifles and Tughlaqabad Fort in the movie.
24. Sarfarosh– Ramjas College
The memorable Aamir Khan movie Sarfarosh was shot at Mumbai, Rajasthan, and Delhi. The song ‘Hosh Walon Ko Khabar Kya’ was shot at the Ramjas College.
25. Baby– Gautama Buddha University
The Akshay Kumar starrer was shot in Mumbai, Nepal, Istanbul, Dubai, and Delhi. Danny Denzongpa is seen as Feroz, who is in his headquarters i.e the Gautama Buddha University.
