Film franchises are considered a very safe option when it comes to the film industry. And when it comes to Bollywood, the audience has more relatability to characters and series that just happen to keep coming.

Especially if we combine the overall box office collections, these projects have been quite a safe investment. Here are 10 of the most popular Bollywood franchises and the overall amount of money they have taken back home.

Note: The box office collections are an estimated value. They may differ a little from the real numbers.

1. Baahubali

India’s most expensive film franchise, Baahubali has been a record breaker in the history of Indian cinema. The mythical magnum opus has been an ultimate game changer.

The ‘Beginning’ was released in 2015 and with the ‘Conclusion‘ in 2017, the numbers soared up as high as this!

2. Dhoom

The second biggest franchise of Bollywood, Dhoom series has been going steady with the Abhishek BachchanUday Chopra duo. Every series comes with a thrill of having a brand new antagonist.

Dhoom 3, that starred Aamir Khan in a gray role has earned the highest of the three series till now, touching a mark of 540 crores worldwide.

3. Krrish

What started as a small project with Koi Mil Gaya has now turned into the biggest sci-fi franchise that Bollywood has ever had.

With Krrish 3, that hit the screens in 2013, the movie broke all its previous records earning an estimated value of 300 crores at the box office. We might get to watch the fourth part by 2020.

The Vidya Balan starrer, one-woman thriller series is just two films old but has definitely left a permanent mark on its audience. While Kahaani 2 is still considered a little faded as compared to its predecessor, Kahaani 1, the series clearly has been doing great on box office, despite being a low budget project.

7.  Hate Story

The erotic-thriller has been growing steadily bringing new faces with every sequel. Its fourth chapter, starring Karan Wahi and Urvashi Rautela, is expected to release this year.
