Sanjay Gupta, the man behind Kaante, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Shootout at Wadala, is back with yet another crime thriller. Titled ‘Mumbai Saga‘, this film is inspired by a true story of a gangster who once ruled over Mumbai, back when it was more popularly referred to as ‘Bombay’. The film itself traces how Bombay became Mumbai against a backdrop of crime and corruption. Mumbai Saga has been produced by Bhushan Kumar‘s T-Series, in association with White Feather Films and has a massive cast including the likes of prominent actors like John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi and Suniel Shetty in the lead, alongside Mahesh Manjrekar, Amole Gupte, Gulshan Grover, Kajal Aggarwal, Jackie Shroff, Samir Soni, Rohit Roy, Prateik Babbar, and Anjana Sukhani.
What’s Mumbai Saga About:
John Abraham takes the lead in the trailer as the power-hungry Amartya Rao who is unstoppable. Bullets fly from his gun like promises from a politician’s mouth and he soon becomes a dreaded gangster. The only person who can challenge him is Emraan Hashmi’s Inspector Vijay Savarkar, who won’t back down until Rao is killed by his bullet. This cop and gangster chase is set in the late ’80s and early ’90s, also showing the changing faces of Mumbai as the mills shut down, giving way to high-rise buildings and shopping complexes. How this gangster and cop affect this changing state of Mumbai remains to be seen in the film.
Why You Should Watch:
While Sanjay Gupta has already proved his mettle as an action crime filmmaker, Mumbai Saga is extra special as it has been over a year since we watched a good crime thriller in theatres. The film is not just your regular cop and gangster drama but delves deeper into the world of crime and corruption in Mumbai. Be prepared to see a lot of action and blood because going by its trailer, Mumbai Saga is going to come at us with all guns blazing. The chemistry between John’s Rao and Emraan’s Savarkar is undeniable with Mahesh Manjrekar and Suniel Shetty adding their own gangster swag into the mix. We cannot wait to see what the other characters bring to the story, especially with Jackie Shroff playing Chief Mehmood Imtiaz and actress Kajal Aggarwal as Jamuna.
