Who doesn’t love Bollywood movies based on true events? In the last two years, we have got to witness some incredible true stories being brought to life through films like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Padman, Mission Mangal, and many others. This year we have some big movies to look forward to which are all based on true events.
Bell Bottom
Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, while not too much is known about the film, what we do know is that it’s an espionage thriller and it’s based on an untold true story revolving around a hijack.
’83
When cricket and movies come together in India you know you’ve got a blockbuster. ’83 is one of the biggest films this year and it revolves around India’s win in the 1983 World Cup. This film will star Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and Deepika Padukone as his wife. So far what we do know is that this blockbuster will release in March 2021.
The Big Bull
While this film is a biographical drama based on the life of Harshad Mehta, it is also based on true events that revolve around his financial crimes that he committed over a period of 10 years, from 1980 to 1990. This film stars Abishek Bachchan in the lead role and will be released on Disney+ Hotstar.
Maidaan
This sports film is based on the golden era of Indian football which was from 1952-62. Ajay Devgn will be playing the football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in Maidaan. Currently, the film is set to hit the big screen on October 15, 2021.
Bhuj: The Pride of India
This film will be set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and it will star Ajay Devgn in the lead role. The story revolves around an IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik who was then in-charge of the Bhuj airport. He along with his team and with the help of 300 women from the local village reconstructed the IAF airbase. After the announcement of this film, it was confirmed that the true incidents shown in this film are one of India’s most fascinating war-related stories. We can’t wait for this film to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar.
