Five Times Vidya Balan Proved That She Doesn’t Need A Hero

There’s no doubt that Vidya Balan is one of finest actors in Bollywood today. Right from her debut film Parineeta, Balan has experimented with her roles and has never shied away from doing something not many actresses would be comfortable with. Her next film – Tumhari Sulu – releases on November 17. The film doesn't feature any big stars but that's fine as Balan is capable of making a film work single-handedly. Don’t believe us? Read on and you will.

The Dirty Picture

Despite sharing screen space with Naseeruddin Shah, and Emraan Hashmi, and Tusshar Kapoor, Vidya owned this film. She even put on several kilos to look like Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture.

You’d think a movie without a hero, no songs, and a pregnant woman as its lead character wouldn't work. But Vidya Balan's sensational performance is the main reason why Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani was a hit.

Her portrayal of a conniving widow fetched her several awards. Unfortunately, Balan did not feature in the sequel to Ishqiya.

Vidya played a strong-headed single mother to Amitabh Bachchan in this R. Balki film. Big B may have had a bigger role but Balan still made a lasting impression.

Begum Jaan

Which actress besides Vidya Balan would dare to sign a film like Begum Jaan? Well, we can’t think of anyone. Balan carried the film on her shoulders but sadly it didn't make much money.

Don’t forget to read our review of Tumhari Sulu.
