You might have noticed the increasing number of anthology films hitting streaming platforms. Many viewers find the format convenient as they’re shorter and quicker to watch than full length films. Here are five Malayalam anthology films worth checking out.

‘Naalu Pennungal’

Directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, this offbeat film is a set of four stories of four women. The film stars Padmapriya, Geethu Mohandas, Manju Pillai and Nandita Das in the lead roles. Set in the early 1960s, it highlights the social issues of the time.

‘Solo’

Unlike other anthologies, ‘Solo’ has been directed by a single filmmaker, Bejoy Nambiar with Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. ‘Solo’ tells the story of four men; each story revolves around the four vital elements: earth, fire, wind and water. The god Shiva features in each. The film may not have done well at the box office, but is one is one of our absolute favourites.

‘Aanum Pennum’

‘Aanum Pennum’ follows stories of three women, Savithri, Rachiyamma and Rani, and their relationships with men. It has Samyukta Menon, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Darshana Rajendran, Roshan Mathew, Asif Ali, Joju George and Indrajith Sukumaran. Aashiq Abu’s ‘Rani’ is the segment we loved the most.

Jointly produced by Dil Raju and Sandhya Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations and Nishrinkala Films banners, Natyam also features Rohit Behal, Adithya Menon, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Bhanupriya, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Baby Devina and Hyper Aadi. The music and background score is composed by Shravan Bharadwaj. ‘Natyam’ will release in cinemas on Friday, October 22.
