A stylish gangster saga
Gurunath (Gautham Menon), is a dreadful gangster in Mumbai, then Bombay, the in 90s. He’s saved from a fatal attack by a small boy, Michael (Sundeep Kishan). Impressed by Michael’s bravery, Gurunath takes him under his wings and instructs his Swamy (Ayappa Sharma) to raise him. Over the years, Michael raises in the ranks and once again, saves Gurunath from an assassination attempt. In retaliation, Gurunath asks Michael to kill Rathan (Anish Kuruvilla), the person who ordered his assassination, and his daughter Theera (Divyansha Kaushik). However, Michael falls for Theera and what follows is an unexpected turn of events that deserves to be witnessed on the large screen.
Kishan has delivered his career-best performance as Michael. Kaushik is pitch perfect as his lady love, and the scenes between the lead pair are lovely to watch. Menon is perfectly cast as a don while Vijay Sethupathi’s extended cameo serves as a catalyst for the events that unfold.
While we’ve watched many gangster flicks, director Ranjit Jeyakodi manages to keep us thoroughly engrossed. It’s hard to believe this is cinematographer Kiran Koushik’s first film as he’s done a superb job. Sam CS’s compelling background score is another highlight of the film.
